The mobile cancer detection unit

Amala envisaged the importance of community health programmes from the very beginning. Amala Medical Mission launched at Vettilappara and Varandarappilly were successfully served thousands of rural families by providing primary health care.

Hospital had undertaken an ambitious Rs.40 lakh project for Cancer detection and dental examination in collaboration with Amala Krebshilfe e.v,Bonn, and German Government during the 1987 - 1989 years. A German Ambulance Van with all infrastructure for Cancer detection and dental examination was used for this project. During this period we conducted a total of 204 camps in which 1,27,952 people were screened and 15,000 extractions were done. Even though the project was successfully completed in December 1989, the activities are still continuing.

Cancer Control Programme : Mass Cancer education and early detection of the disease are the objectives of the programme. Cancer Awareness Sessions at selected venues, Cancer Screening and Detection Camps, Workshops and Cancer Screening Surveys are the principal activities of this project. Cosponsored by Ministry of Health, Govt. of India, activities of this project spread over to three districts.
